Restaurant Review : Barat Lifestyle Vegetarian Restaurant @ Bangsar

To some of my friends, you probably already know that my husband decided to turn vegetarian since 1 Jan 2019.

After watching him eat unhealthy vegetarian food (yes, that’s possible) for the first 2 months of the year, I took a bit more interest into preparing vegetarian options for dinner at home, and searching for restaurant that caters to both our differing diets when we dine out.

We have another couple friend, Regina and Matthew, who’s in a similar diet dynamic. Based on their recommendation, we went to Barat at Lorong Kurau in Bangsar. The restaurant was a Western / Mediterranean cuisine sister restaurant to The Ganga Cafe (Indian vegetarian restaurant) next door.

Barat has a nice chilled ambiance that’s perfect for casual date night, or even intimate birthday celebrations. They serve Western cuisine, with a hint of Indian fusion on some menu items.

Menu and Pricing

There were only 4 of us, but as usual, I tend to over-order food. It also doesn’t help that all of us had different food preference. We ended up with way too much appetizers to share.

One of the good thing is that the menu featured not only Vegetarian options, but Vegan and Gluten Free options, too.

Appetizers

Golden Fried Cheese Balls (RM 15.90)
Tender Crisp Onion Fritters (RM 15.90)
Jalapeno Poppers (RM 18.90)
Mushroom Bruschetta (RM 15.90)
Patatas Bravas (RM 12.90)
Waldorf Salad (RM 20.90)
Cauliflower Manchurian (RM 14.90)

Main Course(s)

Then, it came to our individual Mains. By this time, we were actually already stuffed! But the food was so good, we kept on eating.

Mexican Arborio Rice (RM 20.90)
Creamy Mushroom Risotto (RM 20.90)
Pistachio Carbonara with sundried tomatoes (RM 28.90)
Lasagna (RM 18.90)

There were plenty of wine and cocktails flowing all night. We ended the meal by sharing the creme brulee.

Home made Creme Brulee (RM 16.90)

Even though I originally wanted to stay away from carbs, it was impossible that night. I had the risotto, which was ah-mazing, and even finished 2 orders of the Cauliflower Manchurian. That cauliflower dish even inspired me to recreate it at home after, which I shared on my Insta-story.

We all absolutely love the food here, and vowed to come back again. Hubby even mentioned that he’ll bring other colleagues and guests here next time. I guess he found his favourite vegetarian restaurant!
