After skipping a bunch of tech events, since having my baby, it was a nice change to come back with an exclusive invite to a small preview of a smartphone. To be exact, the Lenovo PHAB Plus phablet.
While I was confined in the last few months, I have been keeping up with tech news whenever I can, via the many tech blogs and sites I subscribe to. I knew about this phablet since the announcement in IFA in Berlin. The phablet is huge. Yes, all 6.8″ of it. It’s crazy to think that it’s really just 0.2″ short of being the same size as a 7″ tablet. So, how can this be a phone at this huge size. It’s plain silly holding it up to your face to answer a call, no?

I don’t know who this Suzy Bae is. I’m guessing some Korean star. 😛 But yeah – she’s PHABulous! 🙂
In case the 5.7″ Samsung Galaxy Note 5 or Galaxy S6 Edge is not big enough for you, then this is what you should consider.
Boasting with a full HD display optimized for one-hand usage, 24 hours of battery life and Dolby Atmos technology, the Lenovo PHAB Plus is the ultimate entertainment machine.
It’s a mid-range Android smartphone, packed with good specs – 8 core processor, 13 megapixel rear camera, Dual SIM, 24 hours talk time battery life, Dolby Atmos speakers… With a giant screen like that, you’ll be sure the photos and videos you’re viewing on this looks very much larger than you’re used to.
Lenovo PHAB Plus Malaysian Launch and Availability
The PHAB Plus was targeted at tech-savvy millennial generation, who wants a phablet instead of owning 2 separate smartphone and tablet. Its full HD display is optimized for single hand usage, compatible with both left and right hand users.
The Lenovo PHAB Plus is now available at all Lenovo Exclusive Stores and Lenovo Authorised Retailer at a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of RM1,199.
Exclusive Pre-Launch Preview
Thanks to Lenovo Malaysia, along with 7 other “Influencers” we got a special pre-launch preview of the Lenovo PHAB Plus a day before the official Malaysian launch.
//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.jsAs soon as I got in the secret room, I was given the PHAB Plus to play with.
To be fair, a phablet is not for everyone. But for those who loves large screen devices, this one really tops it from a much larger screen size perspective. When I held it in my hand, I was pleasantly surprised that it’s not that goofy to hold. It wasn’t crazily oversized and actually fits in my lady hand.
The phablet is thin, at 7.6mm and doesn’t feel heavy. But I have to commend Lenovo for the build quality. For a mid-range phablet, the metallic unibody design is actually solid in hand. It wasn’t plasticky but feels rather premium.
As a larger than normal screen size, even for a phablet, it was weird at first browsing on Facebook and Instagram on it. FYI, you get the tablet view of Facebook app on this large screen. After awhile though, clicking around, you get really used to it. Before long, I was browsing and tapping away with ease.
A few points to note…
One of the first thing I noted was the floating “Home” button on screen, very much like the one you see on iPhones. Ahem.
Lenovo talks much about the single hand usage with the PHAB Plus. A must have for a device this size, of course. To facilitate this, there are certain gestures that you can use. Drawing a “C” with your finger on the right side on screen (reverse “C” for left handed use) will minimize the screen for single hand use. There’s a toggle if you wish for the minimize window to be a bit larger.

We were given an hour to hit the streets with the Lenovo PHAB Plus and perform tasks and challenges with some of the highlighted features. We got to test a few things like HD video recording, multi-tasking, low light photography, panorama pictures, Dolby Atmos speakers and more.
If you followed me on Facebook HERE, you would’ve likely seen some of the picture and videos I posted as part of the challenge that Sunday.
My personal favourite of our challenge, is this panorama shot we took at the concourse of Pavilion KL. One of those shots where we were in every shot. There was so much planning and we were running around the photographer to make sure the panoramic picture stitched up perfectly. I like!
Once everyone got back from our challenges, our score was tabulated and voila!!! Me and Jeremy won!!!

We won dining vouchers for Westin KL, just in case you’re wondering. Looks like it’ll be a nice dinner for me and Hubby away from baby one day. 🙂
It was good fun Sunday. To be able to have my a pre-launch hands on time with the Lenovo PHAB Plus.
And I got to know from Lenovo Malaysia, that I will be getting a Lenovo PHAB Plus soon, so I can have more hands on time with the phablet, and them give you a proper review. Until then, go ahead – tell me in the comments below, what you want to know about the PHAB Plus. Any specific features you want me to test?
