These 3 devices (both of which are Windows 8 devices) serves different market segments. From the power horse ASUS TAICHI that’s good for business professionals who does a lot of presentations and note sharing, to ASUS VivoTab Smart for the road  warrior who wants portability but not sacrifice productivity to the low end ASUS MeMO Pad for the first time Android tablet users who likes 7″ tablets for portability and content consumption.

With these 3 devices being rather different from each other, ASUS kicks off the new 2013 with more innovation and stunning designs for their product lineup. Let’s get into the details of the 3 devices.

ASUS TAICHI

ASUS TAICHI is a Windows 8 Ultrabook (thin and light notebook) with back-to-back dual touchscreens design, used as a notebook (lid open) or a tablet (lid closed) or a presentation / sharing screen (lid open).

With Microsoft’s new Windows 8 push for innnovative form factors with touchscreen for the new Operating System, coupled with Intel’s continuous push for Ultrabooks to be thin, light and portable as ever, ASUS TAICHI is a great showcase of both objectives.

From the front, with the lid open – it looks like a regular Ultrabook with full HD touchscreen, backlit keyboard and sleek black mirror finish. At the back of your notebook screen is another screen. Close the lid and you get yourself a tablet, also with Full HD touchscreen capabilities. But you know what? Both screens can work independently or simultaneously. You can use both screens with the lid open, to share a presentation or a movie running on both sides.

I feel the dual screen action (activated by a button on the top of the keyboard) is very handy for those business professionals who does a number of presentations or group discussions. This way, you can use the screen on the lid to share your screen, instead of traditionally having everyone huddle over your notebook screen, or hooking up to a projector.

The ASUS TAICHI has some impressive specs to ensure it works great both as a notebook and a tablet. Here are some brief overview of the specs:-

  1. ASUS is obviously not ready for Malaysia market with their ASUS VivoTab. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a critic, just a very unsatisfied user of the product. Purchased the Vivo Tab RT 3 months ago, the product crash within 2months. Sent the product for repair since 22 Feb 2013 and that the last I’ve seen it. Call service Centre 100 times and was told that they will escalate and call back, not once I’ve got a call back. They literally took my product that I’ve paid a good RM2000 for and disappeared. I call that daylight robbery. Let’s just say, a combination a product that crash within the first 3 months of purchase and crappy service and follow up, so far the worst experience I’ve had with any product.
