Huawei P10, P10 Plus and P10 Lite Launched in Malaysia

Huawei P10 Malaysia Launch

I have been a fan of Huawei smartphones for awhile now. Previously, I used to think less of Chinese manufactured devices, but since reviewing a few of them, Huawei stood out with their build quality and performance reliability, with a more affordable price tag comparatively.

When I got the invite to attend the launch of a flagship Huawei device, I got off my lazy ass to attend it. Since the announcement at MWC 2017 last month, us Malaysians were lucky to be one of the first countries to locally launch this flagship Huawei P10 series smartphones.

It’s great to see an old friend, my wedding photographer, Edwin Tan, on stage. Speaking about his experience using the Huawei P9 and winning multiple awards for his smartphone photography.

Besides the Huawei P10 range, there were also showcase of Huawei Nova Lite and Huawei Watch 2.

Introducing Huawei P10

As a successor to the very successful Huawei P9 phones, the P10 is once again, all about that superior camera!

Huawei once again partnered with Leica to co-engineer theP10 with major improvements to its rear Leica Dual Camera, carrying two SUMMARIT-H lenses of 20 MP and 12 MP each, for 4K captures, more precise 3D facial detection, dynamic illumination, and superior low-light photography.

Also love their bokeh / blurred background effects for both monochrome or coloured shots.

For the first time ever in smartphone photography, the P10 now features a Leica front camera on the P10 and P10 Plus. Which means, your selfies are now more amazing with better low light handling. And it also auto-adjusts to accommodate wide angle wefie or groupfies. Groufie?

There were a few more features highlighted at the event, but here’s the official introduction video of the Huawei P10.

Here’s some quick specs for the P10 range of devices.

Huawei P10 Hands-On

After the launch event, we were ushered to the Experiential Zone to get our hands-on time with the Huawei P10 range.

I much prefer the P10 at 5.1″ display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, which is about the right size for my lady hands.

Huawei P10 boasts TRIPLE Leica lens – two at the rear, one at the front!
Other than that Leica front camera, there’s also a faster octa-core processor & Fast Charging capabilities
Better rear lens – 20 MP and 12 MP each, at F2.2 aperture

If 5.1″ is a wee too small for your manly hands, check out the P10 Plus with a 5.5″ screen that has, of course, a much better display 2560 x 1440 (2K) resolution.

P10 Plus at 5.5″ still fits nicely in my hand
P10 Plus also have the Summarit-H Leica Dual Camera, but at a wider F1.8 aperture
Thin (at 6.98 mm) and light (165 g)

If you don’t need high end specs, but still want the impressive capabilities of a P10 smartphone, there’s a light version – P10 Lite. Unfortunately though, the P10 Lite does not come with the dual rear lens. Just a singular 12 MP Leica lens.

Huawei P10 Lite still caries an octa-core processor (although lower spec) and Fast Charging capabilities.
Huawei P10 Lite is the only model in the range that will hit Malaysia with the unique Sapphire Blue colour (left) at launch.

Yeah. While the Graphite Black and Prestige Gold are beautiful colours, Huawei Malaysia will not be bringing the other colours (Blue, Green, Rose Gold) to Malaysia as yet. They’re still, well, testing the market.

If you’re super kan cheong and can’t wait to get your hands on the new P10, you can now pre-order the phone since 23 March, to be delivered when it’s officially available.

You can pre-order the Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Lite (Sapphire Blue), starting today, from these channels:-

Of course, come 31 March, you would also be able to get it alongside a mobile plan with all of their telco partners.

Personally, I am rather excited to see this phone in market, for no doubt, it will once again break sales record as the P9 did in Malaysia. Truth be told, I am way too excited in hoping to get my hands on a review unit soon. I hope.
