Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite Review #1 and #2 for CNET Asia Tech Factor

Once again, I have been selected to be featured as a CNET Asia Tech Factor reviewer. The program is a 4 part review series where readers (or bloggers) are selected to review a new gadget (from hard drives to smartphones to notebooks) and share their experiences.

This time around, the product on showcase is the AMD powered, 13″ Windows 8 notebook – the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite.

When I last wrote my review for the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone, I was chosen to represent Malaysia, with other reviewers from Australia, Indonesia, India and Thailand. It was a weekly, 4 part review of posts from the unboxing and hardware overview, to the Z10 as a work phone, to using it for personal use with all its latest features, to their killer BBM and camera functions, and then closing it off with a video summary and interview of BlackBerry Z10 users in Malaysia.

For this new program for the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite, it’s once again a 4 part series of review posts which includes some cool pictures and videos, too. Instead of a reviewer from each country in Asia, they’re now pitting 2 reviewers against each other – coincidentally, both of us from Malaysia – me and Nicole Tan.

#1 Unboxing the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite thin, light and portable notebook

Early in September 2013, Samsung Malaysia Electronics announced the availability of the lightweight, Windows 8 powered Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite. “Ease of mobility”, “powerful multi-tasking”, “lightweight material in stylish design” – these were the words Samsung used to describe this mid-range, mass market consumer notebook.

When CNET Asia asked if I was interested to review the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite, I was happy to participate. Having seen the press images, read some good online reviews and heard some buzz about this device, I was so ready to geek out with a new toy!

#2 A closer look at the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite hardware

Last week, I shared the unboxing and first impression of the Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite. This week, let’s take a closer look at the build quality and Samsung’s claims of a stylish design for this thin and light notebook.

Hardware Overview and Build Quality

This AMD-powered notebook is marketed as an ultraportable laptop for the mid-range market. Good for the students and mobile professionals who need a light and functional machine for web browsing, Microsoft Office applications and occasional multimedia functions.
