HTC Butterfly S On Sale in Malaysia

HTC Butterfly S - Fervour Red

A few months back, I reviewed the HTC Butterfly 5″ Android smartphone from HTC, also known as HTC J Butterfly in Japan or HTC Droid DNA in US. It was a nice large screen (5″ display might not be large for some of you) Android smartphone running on the slightly older Android 4.1 Jellybean OS with HTC Sense 4 UI.

The updated HTC Butterfly S doesn’t vary too much from the previous HTC Butterfly in terms of hardware and outlook. In the guts though, the hardware specs have all been updated – processor, Ultrapixel rear camera, battery and is now 4G LTE and NFC capable.

The biggest upgrade would have to be the software / OS running on the HTC Butterfly S. It’s now updated with the new HTC Sense 5 interface. In case you forgot, the new HTC Sense 5 includes some new features such as:-

  • HTC BlinkFeed – Grid based Home screen with updates from your social media, news feeds and article from global and local content
  • HTC BoomSound – Dual front facing stereo speakers, for lound and clear sounds powered by Beats Audio technology

HTC Butterfly S will be available for sale starting mid August 2013, at a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of RM 2,399 from all authorised HTC retailers.

Yes, RM 2,399 is a little pricey. More expensive than their flagship HTC One (RM 2,299) or the other 5″ smartphones in the market, like Samsung Galaxy S4 (RM 2,199) or Sony Xperia Z (RM 2,199).

Malaysia is one of the first few countries to launch the HTC Butterfly S, so there’s understandably not much review out there on the Interwebz today. But here are a some reviews that you can check out for now:-

I liked the previous HTC Butterfly for its curved back that sits nicely in my hands and the 5″ screen is not too big. With the upgraded hardware and spftware specs on the HTC Butterfly S, I think people looking for the HTC experience but want a bigger display will find this worth checking out.

What do you think?
