Broken Dreams

What was your ambition when you were young? What did you want to be when you grow up?

I’m not talking about when you were 5 years old. I’m talking about when you were in high school. When you were at that crossroad, figuring out what to study in college. If you even want to go to college at all. What were your dreams? What did you want to do with your life?

I’m in my 30s now and have been around a lot of working professionals. I wonder all the time if what they’re doing for a living now was what they’d always wanted. Mostly with business professionals, this was not how they had pictured their life.

We all get caught with reality. We all get stuck un the rat race. Bills to pay, responsibilities to fulfill.

We reminiscence about the younger year when we dream of being a fighter pilot, a singer, an architect, a newscaster and all. What happened to those dreams? What happened to the younger you? When you were a dreamy kid?

If we could turn back time, we probably won’t pursue those dreams, too. Reality check! We still have bills to pay.

Very few of us really get to make a living with our dreams. If you’re one of them, good for you. If you’ve drifted so far from your original dream, tell me about it.

Heck, I’m not even working in the field of my uni studies. That seems to be rather common too.
