Very honestly, it has been awhile since I read the papers. I couldn’t stand reading about all these disturbing and annoying news on political disputes, murder trials, controversy, etc.
My dad told me about this piece of news. Recently, Mentri Besar of Hulu Selangor, Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo presented brooms to 2 agencies for failing to meet their target assessment collections. Read about it here.
I thought this act / award was very demeaning to the receiving parties. I understand his need to get his point across to the under-performing agencies but this is a little too much for me.
What I can’t understand is why the agency rep went onstage to accept the award. Wouldn’t this be embarassing? Firstly, to announce to all present that you’re not performing is bad enough. Having to go onstage in a roomful of colleagues, peers and subordinates and more embarassingly – press.
Just thought I’d like to share this with those of you who don’t read the newspaper, like me.
Also to post a question out there for all of you – if it was you, would you go up to accept this “Broom Award” or would you just acknowledge and admit your poor performance but make a run for the bathroom??
